johnfasoNovember 9, 2017─The Lyme Disease Association (LDA) announces that Congressman John Faso (NY-19) has introduced today into the US House of Representatives a bipartisan bill, HR 4333, which if passed and signed into law, will provide some much needed monies for Lyme disease and related tick-borne illness research─research within the National Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health. Any monies raised by stamp sales will not affect the level of appropriations or other funding that NIAID would be able to receive in any given year.

Igenex Labs, Palo Alto, CA has announced the development of three new tests, two for Lyme disease and one for tick-borne relapsing fever (TBRF). According to Igenex, the new Lyme ImmunoBlot IgM & IgG has better specificity compared to the traditional Western Blot, 98% for IgM and 98.7 for IgG, and is 90.9% sensitive with well-defined samples. It has better sensitivity because it is designed to detect antibodies to major B. burgdorferi sensu lato specific antigens from North America and European strains: B. burgdorferi B31, B. burgdorferi 297, B. californiensis, B. mayonii, B. afzelii, B. garinii, B. spielmanii, B. valaisiana.

mylymedataThe Lyme Disease Association (LDA) salutes LymeDisease.org (LDo) for their work on the MyLymeData registry. Their  partnering with researchers has now resulted in UCLA & Claremont McKenna College researchers receiving a National Science Foundation grant for $800,000 for their work with the MyLymeData Registry. The collaboration has existed since the inception of MyLymeData. This grant project will use artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to answer questions including what patients remain ill.
